| Location Narrative |
This site is located directly at the outflow of the New Hogan Dam, and was accessed by walking from the end of the River of Skulls Interpretive Trial. This stand is on a gravel bar directly adjacent to the Calaveras River coming out of the dam, and is comprised of large (3-4 foot DBH) cottonwoods in the overstory with an understory of tall Salix exigua, Juglans californica, and Salix laevigata. There are a few scattered shrubs and a few scattered herbs, but otherwise the understory is fairly open.; The stand is probably heavily flooded on a seasonal basis depending on how water is released from the dam. Many of the Salix exigua are on their sides from flooding this year.
